Frequently Asked Questions

DriveScape includes a charging cable that connects to your vehicle's 12v socket (also known as the cigarette lighter).

Important: If your vehicle doesn't have a 12v socket, you'll need special adapters to use DriveScape. However, please be aware that CMT cannot guarantee the performance of these adapters and does not recommend using DriveScape without a proper 12v power adapter.

If the battery has sufficient charge (as it should do after you have been driving), the dashcam will continue to record for up to 5 minutes after you stop driving.

When you are driving on Uber Platform time, the dashcam always records video when it is plugged into power. On your personal drives, you can turn off the road and cabin camera using the Camera Settings feature in the DriveScape app.

The dashcam continues to record because we know that often, if an incident happens while you are driving, you will need to pull over to keep safe. The extended recording of up to 5 minutes will help ensure that all relevant footage is captured after an incident.

No. The DriveScape dashcam has its own mobile data plan and sends video to the cloud independently of your cell phone.

Like other smartphone apps, the DriveScape mobile app that you install on your phone will use your phone’s data to access and play video.

Yes. There are a couple ways Uber Support will receive videos of your rides on the Uber Platform:

  • When you request footage of a safety incident through the Uber Driver app
  • When there is a detected crash

Note that Uber cannot view any of your recordings in real time. Uber is also not able to view any videos recorded on your personal time.

No. You are not required to purchase an SD card. All recorded videos are transmitted wirelessly for your convenience.

Additionally, you can download videos of your choice to your mobile phone using the download button in the DriveScape app.

Yes, it takes only 5 minutes to install. You can check out for more details. Instructions are also provided in the DriveScape box and within the DriveScape app.

Go into the Help section of your Uber app, and find the safety issue you would like to report. You will be asked to select the trip, and then given the option to share video from that trip with Uber. If you choose to share video, Uber will send a request to your DriveScape dashcam for the video from the selected trip.

Yes, DriveScape records anytime you are driving with Uber. This includes when you’re on the way to pick up a passenger.

Your riders will be notified in their Uber app that you have a dashcam and that their ride may be recorded, in order to encourage them to treat you and your vehicle with respect. Your riders never see video from any rides.

The provided window sticker will also let your riders know their trip is being recorded, and help you comply with any local wiretapping or surveillance laws.

By purchasing a dashcam, you agree to pay $5 (plus tax) per month for a 12-month period ($60 plus tax in total). This 12-month, monthly fee is non cancellable.

Drivers can leave the program by contacting drivescape-support@cmtelematics.com or can stop using the dashcam at any time but will be responsible for paying any remaining balance due ($5/month for 12 months, a total of $60 plus tax).

Depending on the success of the program, it may be extended or concluded after 12 months, and you will be notified of next steps towards the end of the 12-month period.
